Code of Conduct For ALL Coaches
Youth Rugby is free flowing to develop skills of running, balance, ball handling and contact. Old Ruts Coaches must ensure that the skills of the game are correctly taught and that they encourage success achieved by each player.
It is vital that every player receives the same opportunity to develop in a friendly & co-operative environment. -Participation, improvement and competitive performance, without emphasis on “win at all costs”.
Guidelines
You have the responsibility of your team and support. EXERCISE IT.
Remember that young players play for fun and enjoyment.
Encourage players to develop basic skills and avoid over specialisation in positional play. Ensure that skill learning and free play activities have priority over structured competitions.
Teach sportsmanship. Make sure that efforts for both skill improvement and good sportsmanship are praised. Insist on fair play. Do not tolerate foul play, fighting or foul language, be prepared to take off any offending player.
Teach your players the laws of the game and that no one should evade or break. Minor infringements should be allowed, in an effort to foster an open whistle free game and flair in players.
Ensure that all players get a game. The “average players” need and deserve equal time and not simply when the game has been won or lost.
Young people need a coach they can respect. Be generous with your praise when it is deserved and set a good example. Never ridicule or yell at players for making mistakes or losing a game. Words can hurt, be careful in what you say in frustration.
