Code of Conduct for ALL Parents

At the Old Rutlishians’ Rugby Club, our aim is to introduce children to the game of rugby; the essential feature of which is enjoyment. Irrespective of size, body shape or ability, players are to be given the opportunity to reach their potential in a caring, fun and safe environment.

With your support, you will see your child’s co-ordination; confidence; self esteem and social skills improve immensely. Your child’s involvement at Old Ruts will provide a good basis of health, fitness and motor skills for future years and of course, they will have fun.

Guidelines:

Do not force an unwilling youngster to participate in Rugby.

Attend as many games and coaching sessions as possible, experience and share your child’s enjoyment.

Encourage your child to always play by the laws of the game.

Teach children that honest effort and developing skills are as important as victory. Encourage your child that games are for the display of skills and sportsmanship, rather than for winning.

Don’t point out their mistakes, but concentrate on what they have improved on. Remember positive reinforcement of their successes will have better results and will be a more enjoyable approach for both you and your child.

Remember young people learn by example. Applaud good play from all players on the pitch. Never ridicule or yell at any player for making a mistake or losing a game.

Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from the game including from the sideline.

Recognise the value and importance of volunteer coaches, managers and referees. They give of their time to provide recreational activities for your child. Offer assistance when available. There is a lot to co-ordinate on a Sunday morning; even a little help can make a big difference.

Take direction from the team coach and management or club officials while at the games.
