Code of Conduct for ALL Spectators

One of our coaching aims at the Rugby is to encourage sportsmanship and fair play. Such actions are to be rewarded.

While competition and results can be paramount for some adults, enjoyment and developing skill are the measure of success for the children on the pitch. Let us all support the players, club and game in a way that which best suits the players.

Remember, Rugby is a participation sport; give support and encouragement to the players on the pitch. The children are on the pitch for their enjoyment, not yours.

If you relax and learn to appreciate the skills on display, from all players including the opposition, then games will be more enjoyable.

Guidelines:

Youth Rugby is a game for the enjoyment of the players. It is not professional sport.

Be on your best behaviour. Don’t use profane language or harass players, coaches or referees. Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from the game including from the sideline.

Remember that young children play Rugby for their fun and enjoyment. They are not there to entertain you and they are not “professionals”. Relax and you will enjoy the skills on display.

Applaud good play and sportsmanship by any player on the pitch. Never ridicule or scold a player for making a mistake during a game.

Referees are encouraged to allow a free flowing game. Minor infringements, including minor “knock ons” are to be allowed in an effort to foster an open whistle free game and flair in players. Remember this when you feel the need to comment on the game or performance of the referee.

Recognise the value of volunteer coaches, managers and referees. They give of their time to ensure the games can take place. Offer assistance when available. There is a lot to co-ordinate on a Sunday mornings even a little help can make a big difference. Remember, these volunteers are there for their enjoyment, including the referee. Thank these volunteers for their time and effort that has allowed the games to be played.

Take direction from the team coach and management or club officials while at the games.

Remember, also that Old Rutlishians’ Rugby Club has a thriving social membership, please feel free to partake of food and drink while at the club. Enquiries over membership can be made at the bar or shop.
