Silverware heads to Poplar Road…
05 October 2011
A big shout first for the U13’s who on Saturday October 1st played on the full sized Stoop pitch at Harlequins in the final of the SGOSS Cup (a Quins organised cup for U13’s only) and won the cup by beating a very plucky but outgunned Pulborough side 8 tries to 1.
The team were extremely well organised in the forwards, winning their own scrums and line outs and competing fiercely at all the rucks and they won more than enough ball for the backs who relished the wide open spaces.
Well done Stacia, Tim, Andy and all the coaches and helpers for the work they have done with these lads.
Ruts reign at Kings Festival…
Over at the Kings A Festival on Sunday, Stu Walker’s U10’s finished runners up in the Cup final losing by the odd try to Wimbledon – new players this season and continued improvement from established players has seen a rapid rise in the ability of this squad to compete and they will only get better.
But the BIG news is that our newest squad the U7’s won the cup! As coach Brian Fitzgerald
put it:
“We won the Cup outright winning four out of our five matches in great style attracting compliments for our play from refs and opponents alike.”
What a great start for these guys!
Minis Festival
at Poplar Road
Sunday October 2nd saw something entirely new to Ruts, an U12’s only festival with guests from Old Emanuel, Old Reigatians, London Scottish, Brighton and near neighbours Wimbledon providing the opposition.
In baking heat, all the teams competed really well with Wimbledon eventually running out the winners of the plate and Brighton A’s beating Old Ruts A’s in a titanic Cup final with both teams playing some superb hard rugby but Brighton just deserving their 2 try to nil victory.
Our thanks to Mick and Perry for presenting the pitches so well, Mike Stallard, Colin Walsh and Tiny Stokes for reffing, to Elaine Harrison for putting in a huge organizational stint to make it all happen in advance and run it on the day and to Simon Englefield, Head coach of the U12’s, whose idea it was in the first place.
